Test of Variables of Attention
Attention is a complex factor related to various cognitive processes and neuropsychology. Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA) is an entirely computerized test that evaluates components related to attention, such as response time, impulsivity, and errors due to inattention.
We utilize the TOVA to assess the aforementioned multi-factorial set of processes associated with attention. Sensory selection, response selection, and attention capacity can all be influenced by attention deficits; therefore, the TOVA is a specialized 21-minute test, measuring the response to visual cues by showing simple geometric stimuli.
The TOVA can be used on all kinds of people. It is primarily meant for adult populations, but the test itself has been proven both reliable and valid for people between 4 and 80 years old. An additional test also exists for pre-school children, which is significantly shorter and better optimized for younger age groups.
Education and literacy matter very little for the TOVA due to the simplicity of both test items and instructions. The test has proven beneficial for the identification and treatment of various attention deficit-related issues such as ADHD.
